I could have lent you the money. Why didn’t you ask me?
You needn’t have walked up; you could have taken the lift.
She felt miserable. She could have cried.
That was a had place to go skiing—you could have broken your leg.
Why did you throw the bottle out of the window? Somebody could have been hurt.
You could have helped me—why did you just sit and watch?
I am disappointed that you didn’t tell me. You should have told me.
Which of the two methods is the better?
Of the two possibilities, this is more likely than that.
He’s had a holiday and looks the better for it.
I love him all the more for his faults.
The younger you are, the easier it is to learn.
The better I know her, the more I admire her.
The more money you make, the more you spend.
He is by far the cleverer than her.
could have done 用于虚拟语气
You could have been killed if I hadn’t warned you.
If he had known the facts, he could have told us what to do.
If you had come sooner, you could have helped us.
I could have told them what happened if anybody had asked me.
It’s quicker by far to go by train.
He is cleverer by far than her.
It’s by far the quicker to go by train.
He’s the best teacher even though he has the least experience.
This dictionary is (the) best.
Which of the boys is (the) strongest?
This dictionary is the best I could find.
He was the strongest of all the students.
--You needn't take an umbrella. It isn't going to rain.

A. might
B. need
C. would
D. should
